CHRISTMAS 2008 NEWSLETTER
Dear Newsletter Reader,

Welcome to the December edition of the To Tuscany email.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our To Tuscany clients around the world a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and best wishes for the many religious celebrations over this period.

Thank you for all the entries for our newsletter competition theme of visiting Vineyards in Tuscany and Umbria.  We felt that the best recommendation came from June Carey of California, USA, who told us about the Castello di Verrazzano vineyard in the heart of the Chianti region just off the S222 not far from Greve in Chianti.  The S222 many of you will be familiar with as it is the old main Chiantigiana road linking Florence and Siena and a favourite to drive to visit various vineyards and ancient villages.  The Castle was originally an Etruscan settlement before becoming a Roman settlement and eventually being passed on to the Verrazzano family in the 7th Century.  More information can be found on the following link:  http://www.verrazzano.com/en/index.php

Our newsletter competition will be back again in the New Year, meanwhile see below for details of the winner of the 2008 photocompetition and a weblink where you can view all of this years entries.

Photocompetition winner 08
We had many entries for our photo competition this year and we would like to thank you all for sending them to us and for the quality of the photos you all took.

There can only be one winner though and after much deliberation we decided that this photo captured the essence of having fun in Tuscany.  It was sent in by Lesley Lodge and is entitled "I THINK ITS THIS WAY"

Lesley wins a hamper of Tuscan produce which will be arriving in time to be enjoyed for Christmas.

All the 2008 entries can be viewed using the following link, you can also add your comments.

Two runners up will be receiving some of the Casanuova di Ama Olive Oil described below.

The photo-competition will be back for 2009.

The Olive Oil is back!

Olive Picking

During your stay with us in Tuscany, you will no doubt have noticed the many olive trees in the grounds of your villa or apartment and the surrounding areas.  The olives are harvested by hand in October and November and are taken to the local vineyards for pressing and packaging (click here for information on the olive harvest).

Last year, To Tuscany were able to offer exclusively a bottle of exquisite oil from the Casanuova di Ama winery (normally only available in the Chianti); we have just received some more stocks of their 2008 oil and we are therefore again offering you the chance to purchase the, first pressed, Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The price is just 20 Euros per 250ml bottle which includes postage and packing.

The olives were picked by hand and have been pressed and bottled using
traditional methods with the help of local independent producers. Casanuova Di Ama has labelled each of the bottles which are typically Tuscan with a lip for easy pouring and each contains a scroll explaining where the oil is from and how its been produced.  To learn more about the Casanuova di Ama vineyard, please visit their website: Casanuova di Ama vineyard
