My top 5 personally visited villas:

Information & Tips

Some guests asked me recently where do I go when I am in the Chianti on holiday, so here are some ideas:

For authentic grocery shopping: Porciattis delicatessen in Radda in Chianti.

For a cup of coffee or a glass of Prosecco: Paolos bar in Lecchi in Chianti.

For dinners at great value: Le Forchette Restaurant in Radda in Chianti.

For a lazy steak in chianti sauce: Marlborghetto Restaurant in Lecchi in chianti.

For a well deserved dinner (or lunch) after a lovely walk from Radda to Volpaia through the chianti countryside: La Bottega restaurant.

For the best ice creams: you have to visit San Gimignano.

For the best photos: the Val d'Orcia area of Tuscany, just to the south of Siena.

Hi,

Welcome to 2014 with To Tuscany! We are delighted that so many of you are booking with us again in 2014, it is our greatest compliment that our guests return year after year. Since the beginning of 2013, To Tuscany has added over 100 new properties to our website and more will be added before the summer giving you even more choice for returning!

One of the delights of my job is to visit the villas so that we have first hand knowledge of the properties and the areas To Tuscany offer; in 2013 I visited Tuscany 8 times and even managed to get my husband and 5 year old over with me on one occasion to try some of the activities for families with children. Below are some of my personal favourites from my visits.

My Favourite Lucca villas

Lucca is an area that is often overlooked by visitors to Tuscany who want to go to the cultural triangle area of Pisa, Florence and Siena, in my opinion, this is a mistake. Lucca is a walled city with lots to offer within. There are towers to climb (including one with oak trees growing on the top), there is a Roman amphitheatre which is now built into residences and cafes you can visit, the composer Puccinis house and museum is here to learn more and listen to his music and best of all, there is an easy walking or biking trail along the medieval walls so you can view the inner city from all angles (bikes can be rented at the Tourist Information office).

Just 7km from Lucca is the Sasseta villa - this 3 bedroom property is beautifully decorated and furnished throughout. The bunkbed room means its great for a family and the views from the pool terrace are just sublime. Much of the high season is already booked here but there are some great early season special offers and plenty of availability if you do not have to travel in the summer school holidays. If you happen to have your own helicopter, you can use the helipad here, the owner uses his own helicopter when he is visiting ;-)

If you are looking for a Tuscan Agriturismo experience, there are 3 comfortable apartments at the Casa del Tosi farm estate 15koutside of Lucca. If you book all 3 apartments, 9 people could stay together:

My favourite villas in the Chianti region
If there are a group of 10 -12 of you travelling together, the villa Il Molinaccio is a perfect property solution for you all. The villa is very well equipped and the Australian owners of the villa are exceptional hosts ensuring that you will get everything you need and even things you didn't know you needed!  In typical Australian style, the poolside BBQ area is equipped for perfect "barbies" for your family.

La Vigna at the Montebuoni hamlet sleeps 4 people and a private Jacuzzi was added to the property features in 2013 - it is located in a private garden overlooking the neighbouring chianti vineyards:
